The God Couple

In putting on his recent God and pony-up show in the Washington Mall, Glenn Beck chose his venue wisely. Anything smaller and there might not have been enough room to hold all the stupidity.

As gathering and lathering goes, this one might have appeared innocuous. God-fearing and patriotic scoundrel Glen Beck, the obsequious host of an evangelical/faux history show on Fox News, the network where journalists go to lie, stated beforehand that the event was non-political. That proclamation may have been a bigger con than Tom DeLay telling Wolf Blitzer how much he decried today’s partisan Congress. They’re both whoppers. The fact that both these skunks could make such claims without fear of being hit by lightning belies their professions of faith in an all-knowing and vengeful god.

Glen Beck does not have a non-political bone, tendon, sinew or cell in his body. Everything he says has a political angle and a selfish end. That he cloaks his agenda in God only makes him another in the long and persistent line of frauds that use religion to obfuscate motive.

Operation Restore Honor implies that rectitude, once common in the country, has gone missing, that the nation has lost its way. The real American people have to come together to make the USA great again, come together to invoke some mythical time that has disappeared over the last two years. That this performance did not occur during the calamitous nay, criminal Bush/Cheney White House is pure coincidence. That it took place in the second year of the presidency of a black, foreign- born, Muslim, socialist Democrat is once again, just coincidence. That the congregation was overwhelmingly white and Christian, constituted largely by those much-aggrieved rebels in the bold Tea Party movement, a group of whiners and pretenders with a self-assigned nickname who speak in the third person and grade, is once again, coincidence. That the power-brokers and money men smell November blood in the water is of course, but coincidence.

No, this was about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, a plea for the US to return to its Christian Roots, those long, lamented days when religious forefathers arrived on the shores and established a great God-fearing nation, along with slavery, indentured labor, misogyny, genocide and criminal contempt for the impoverished.

“We the rich, white, male, People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice for some, insure domestic Tranquility, except for wives, provide for the common defence of private property, promote the general Welfare, unless it becomes a permanent state, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to some amongst us and to fewer, our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for privileged members of the United States of America Club.”

Glen Beck is a sycophantic spokesman for the people who employ him. He is the pompous shill of big money, the plant of the unseen rich who best not make their own case, who fear that the needs of ‘we the people’ might actually be served. He is the organ monkey of special interest who want taxes lowered, government oversight gutted, deregulation expanded and anti-trust disappeared.

Despite his railing against what are derisively termed the ‘elite’ it is he, Glen Beck, public fawner, who is the front for the true elite, the few who run the country and deign to let the rest share the leftovers, the ones who consistently get ‘we the people’ to vote against their well-being and for the benefit of the better sorts who brook no tax. Health care for everyone, ‘not in my America,’ say the power brokers to Glen Beck. ‘Go tell the people that we are losing our way, becoming a godless, socialist state. Use all the code words.’ Glen dutifully does his masters’ bidding; wraps himself in flag and faith, slinks onto his pulpit and spreads propaganda, distortion, lies and nonsense to the gullible and hateful.

And in case, you thought it couldn’t get any more mindless than Beck, you obviously didn’t know about the co-host, the dim-witted Sarah Palin, she of the non-stop campaign for other people’s money and 2012 power divining, the spawn of John McCain, the worst unintended consequence since Mary Shelley’s monster.

The Bekkies and the Tea Partiers common complaint is increased government involvement in the lives of ‘we the people,’ especially as manifested in higher taxes, those invasions of privacy that form the glue of our society. They don’t seem to mind shelling out more than they would in a tax increase to hear a vacuous harpy cackle about the evil of bureaucratic intrusion.

How stupid would you have to be to suppose you could learn anything of value from Sarah Palin? – Jethro Bodine level? At least Jethro was good at ciphering, especially gozintas. You would have had a better chance of getting beauty tips from Golda Meir than anything substantive from Palin’s mouth. There are lots of airheads out there. Unlike Palin and Joe the Dumber, most of them don’t get the chance to expose their emptiness to the public. Is America great or what? In what other nation could idiots command so much attention and be paid so handsomely for making Carrie Prejean seem like Marie Curie. Voltaire pegged it when he stated that common sense is not so common.

Palin has given rise to more like her, including Kentucky Republican candidate for the US Senate, Rand Paul. The partially color blind ophthalmologist, believes that market forces, not legislation, should have resolved civil rights. This thinking is revelatory of the kind of honor Beck seeks to restore. The latest Palintologist is Christine O’Donnell, the imperceptive Republican Senate nominee from Delaware. What a bitter blow it must be to Mary Wollstonecraft, Mother Jones, Susan B. Anthony, Germaine Greer, Gloria Steinem and other pioneers for female equality, to have yoked a heavy plough for so many barren years, then to yield weeds like Palin and O’Donnell. While freedom means you have to take the bad with the good, it seems likely that some of the enduring advocates for women’s rights are searching the shed for the hoe and herbicide.

Palin, prior to outgrowing Juneau and resigning her governorship, lived most of her life next to moose and Russians. She claims to have shot the former and if given the chance, would bomb the latter. Yet without time to search the internet, she couldn’t name three Russian cities; probably not two, maybe not even one if you spotted her the cow. Three Russian cities, two Russian leaders, one Russian writer and a tart-bitch in a bear tree.

Beck and Palin are playing Ding-Dong Ditch with those who pay heed and coin. They have left a flaming paper bag of crap on the nation’s doorstep. If you want to go along with their little gag and cover yourself in it, well that helps explain why you and the other Mad Hatters are in the spurious Tea Party; unwitting pawns in a game controlled by the ‘always do wells’ with centuries of experience in manipulating simpletons and ass-kissers. But if you pause to take a whiff and it smells a lot like shit, it leaks like shit and you think maybe it’s shit, it’s shit.
